Staff Training at intu Trafford Centre

Induction

Everybody who joins intu Trafford Centre is required to take
part in a comprehensive two-week induction programme.
The first week is classroom based, covering all essential
basic training. This includes the Employment Handbook; fire
and evacuation procedures; Health & Safety; Appointed
Person's First Aid; basic trading standards; basic data protection;
and a nationally recognised customer service training course.
The second week involves departmental familiarisation and training.

 

Training

Following the successful completion of the 26-week probationary period, every employee will have the opportunity to take part in further training and development. A range of courses are delivered on site that are open to delegates from all departments. Also available are specialist courses, which meet the needs of specific job roles.

 

Health and Safety

Intu Trafford Centre places the health & safety of it's employees and visitors at the top of it's agenda. To ensure our employees have the knowledge they need, we provide a range of related courses, including: Health & Safety in the Workplace; Supervising Health & Safety; Risk Assessments; COSHH; Manual Handling; Food Hygiene; Occupational Health; Fire & Emergency Procedures; and a range of First Aid qualifications.

 

Customer Service

Excellence in customer service is at the heart of the intu Trafford Centre philosophy, and is the key competence in all job roles. To ensure our employees are aware of Company standards and different visitor needs, we offer a range of customer service training courses. These include: Welcome Host (accredited by the Tourist Board); World Class Service; Respecting Diversity; Cultural Awareness; Courses covering disability, visual impairments, hearing impairments and learning disabilities; a popular Teambuilding Challenge; and 'Respect - relating to your customers' - an interactive customer service CD Rom.

 

Vocational

We offer a range of NVQ programmes which are relevant to employee job roles and departments. Employees in the Environmental Services and Catering & The Orient Departments will have the opportunity to complete British Insititute of Cleaning Science courses, which result in certificates in cleaning competence. Those in Security will attend specific Conflict Resolution and Fire Marshal training. Additional training for individual employees will be discussed in their regular review meetings.

 

Team Leader and above

A range of training courses are provided specifically for employees with supervisory responsibilities, to ensure that their skills are regularly updated, and that standards are consistent throughout the Company. Training aimed at Team Leaders and above includes: NVQ in Supervisory Management; Leadership in the 21st Century; Respecting Diversity for Supervisors; World Class Service for Supervisors; Effective Interview Skills; Progress Reviews; Absence Management; Team Briefings; Presentation Skills and Time Management

 

The Learning Centre

Employees have 24-hour access to our fully equipped Learning Centre if they wish to work on any of our computer-based training packages - either as part of their individual training programmes, or in their own time. Packages include: PC skills, literacy and numeracy; foreign languages; customer service; and Health and Safety. A selection of videos are also available, which focus on different aspects of career development.
