Corporate Responsibility Report 2012

REPORT: Director of Operations Gordon McKinnon.

In our first Corporate Responsibility Report published last year we outlined some of the positive social and environmental impacts achieved by The Trafford Centre and our aspirations for the future.

Our primary aim will always be to run a successful and flourishing shopping and leisure centre that is welcoming, safe and provides an exceptional level of customer service.

In 2011 The Trafford Centre became part of Capital Shopping Centres Group PLC.  We share a commitment to the highest standards of retail excellence and we operate with the same pro-active approach to environmental excellence and positive social impact.

Our approach has always been collaborative and the opportunity to share and exchange best practice with other centres in the CSC Group is providing new and exciting opportunities for even further improvement.

In this report we look to update our progress on the Corporate Responsibility agenda, highlighting new and innovative initiatives and outlining our progress on activity we have been undertaking for some time. Our stores, restaurants and customers remain hugely supportive in helping us to make a difference.

Our retailers, for example, helped us to divert 99% of waste from landfill. Our customers continue to support our community activities, not least with their donations into the fountains. The Fountain Fund has contributed over £310,000 to local and regional charities since our opening.

The vision for The Trafford Centre is and always has been to deliver an outstanding visitor experience as opposed to being just a shopping centre. In this year's report we also look at the place of art and culture in The Trafford Centre and the investment made in the provision of art in public places.

I wrote last year of The Trafford Centre’s approach being bold, ambitious and aspirational. I hope that from reading this report you will see that this still remains the case and I cannot thank our colleagues, our stores and restaurants and our customers enough for their outstanding contribution in helping us to progress towards our targets.
